Candy AI alternatives for gay men
Candy.ai is one of the best-known AI companion platforms, but it was designed for a broad audience, with AI girlfriends front and center and a smaller set of AI boyfriends alongside. If you are a gay man wondering whether there is something closer to what you want, this guide looks at two Candy AI alternatives we cover, ChatRoger and Joi, and also explains when sticking with Candy makes sense. Everything below comes from each platform's own pages on the dates listed. We have not tested chat quality on any of them, and we earn commissions from all three.

Why gay men look for a Candy AI alternative
Candy.ai is a general AI companion platform. It covers AI girlfriends, AI boyfriends and anime characters, and its AI boyfriend page lists 12 official male characters. Nothing on that page mentions gay users. That is not a flaw, just a choice of audience, and plenty of people are happy with it.
The searches we see for "candy ai alternatives" from gay men tend to come down to three things. The first is focus: some men would rather use a platform where every character, and the whole community around them, was designed for men who like men. The second is choice: 12 official boyfriends is a curated set, while some platforms offer thousands of user-made characters. The third is cost visibility: Candy.ai does not show its prices before you create an account, and some people prefer to compare plans before signing up.
Candy AI vs gay-focused alternatives at a glance
This table sums up what we verified on each platform's own pages. It is a comparison of purpose and access, not a ranking: we have not tested chat quality, memory or image quality anywhere.
| Platform | Built for | Free account includes | Paid | AI boyfriends on our site |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Candy.ai | General companion app (girlfriends, boyfriends, anime) | About 5 messages, per its Terms and Help Center | Plans billed monthly, quarterly or yearly with about 100 tokens a month; prices not shown before sign-up | 12 official boyfriends |

AI: illustration generated with AI, not a real personChatRoger: the alternative made for gay men
ChatRoger is the most direct answer if what you want is a platform built around gay men. Alongside its official characters it has roughly 30,000 community characters (about 30,068 in its directory on October 2, 2026). That means you can browse by type instead of scrolling past girlfriends: on our site we group 89 of them into daddies, jocks, twinks, otters and bears. The most messaged one we list is Brad, with about 783,000 messages when we checked; Keon is one of the official characters.
Its pricing is public. Premium costs $14.99 a month or $89.99 a year and includes 1,000 credits a month. Extras are priced in credits: 10 for a voice note, 30 for a photo, 100 for a video and 100 to create your own companion. Per ChatRoger's FAQ, credits are only taken after a successful generation, they do not expire, and they stay on your account if you cancel. There is also a separate adult 18+ mode, which may ask for age verification through Yoti depending on your region.
We have not tested its chat quality, free message limit or audio calls. Our how ChatRoger works guide covers credits in more depth.

Joi: an adult platform with a gay M2M section
Joi is an adult-oriented (18+) companion platform. It is not gay-only, but it has a dedicated section labeled "Gay AI Chat, M2M", which listed about 19 gay and LGBT profiles when we browsed it. Some are fictional "Joi Original" characters; others, labeled "Celebrity", are AI versions of real adult creators.
With a free account you can chat and see a few posts per character. More posts and private media require a paid subscription, and Joi did not show us its prices, so we do not quote any. We list two Joi Originals with full profiles on our Joi hub and four spicier characters on the uncensored page.

Is there a free Candy AI alternative?
If you are searching for a "candy ai free alternative", the honest answer is that all three platforms here are free to join but none is fully free once you want extras. Candy.ai says a free account can send about 5 messages. ChatRoger and Joi both let you start for free too; we have not counted their free message limits, so we will not claim either gives you more.
Where they differ is how you pay after that. ChatRoger sells a monthly or yearly plan plus credit packs, with each extra priced in advance. Joi uses a subscription to unlock more content per character. Candy.ai bills plans monthly, quarterly or yearly with auto-renewal and includes about 100 tokens a month. Our free AI boyfriend guide goes through what each free account covers in more detail.
When Candy.ai is still the right choice
An alternative is not automatically better. Candy.ai may suit you if you like one of its official AI boyfriends, which you can preview on our Candy.ai hub, or if you want a polished general app rather than a gay-only community. It also advertises a custom AI boyfriend builder where you choose his look and personality, and it mentions a 7-day trial.
It is run by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta, and its Terms set out the rules on billing and refunds: refund requests must be made within 24 hours and are refused beyond 20 tokens used, with a 14-day withdrawal right in the EU and UK on a first purchase. Candy is available in most countries, though its Terms bar access from China and Singapore. If you are weighing those points, our guide is Candy AI safe covers its terms and privacy notice in detail.

A note on how we work
This is an independent affiliate guide. ChatRoger, Candy.ai and Joi are all affiliate partners, and we may earn a commission if you subscribe through links on this site, whichever platform you pick. That is why we stick to facts from each platform's own pages and say clearly what we have not tested. Quick answers
What is the best Candy AI alternative for gay men?
It depends on what you want, and we have not tested chat quality, so we do not name a winner. If you want a platform made specifically for gay men with a large community catalogue and public prices, ChatRoger is the closest fit. If you want an adult-oriented app with a gay M2M section and AI versions of real creators, Joi is the other option we cover.
Is there a free Candy AI alternative?
ChatRoger and Joi both let you start with a free account, as does Candy.ai, which says a free account can send about 5 messages. None of them is fully free: photos, voice, private media or more content need credits or a paid plan. ChatRoger is the only one of the three whose prices we could see ($14.99 a month or $89.99 a year for Premium).
What are some websites like Candy AI?
Many AI companion sites work like Candy.ai. For gay men, the two we cover are ChatRoger, which is built for gay men, and Joi, which has a dedicated gay M2M section. We only describe platforms whose facts we checked on their own pages, so this is not an exhaustive list.
Is ChatRoger better than Candy AI?
Not in every way, and we have not compared chat quality. ChatRoger is built for gay men, has about 30,000 community characters and publishes its prices and credit costs. Candy.ai is a general platform with 12 official AI boyfriends and a custom boyfriend builder. Which is better depends on whether you want a gay-focused community or a general app.
Are the characters real?
No. On all three platforms you are chatting with AI. Candy.ai and ChatRoger characters are AI companions, created by the platform or, on ChatRoger, often by its community. Joi includes AI versions of real adult creators, but the conversation itself is still generated by AI.
