Is Candy AI free? The short answer

Partly. Creating a Candy.ai account is free, and Candy's help center says a free user can send up to 5 chat messages in total (across all characters), create one custom character and generate one image. After that, Candy's terms say further use requires a subscription. So Candy AI is free to try, not free to use day to day.

The paid plan is what unlocks unlimited text chat, plus a monthly allowance of tokens for extras like pictures and voice. On October 3, 2026, Candy's public subscription page showed us plans from €3.99 a month on a 12-month plan up to a regular price of €13.99 a month. The details are below, and prices can differ by country, currency and current promotion.

Here is what Candy itself says about each option, from its help center, terms and subscription page. We have not used either tier, so these are Candy's statements, not our measurements. Where Candy does not say, we write so.

How much does Candy AI cost?

Candy shows its prices on a public subscription page, before you create an account. This is what that page displayed when we opened it logged out from France on October 3, 2026. Amounts were in euros; visitors in the US and other countries may see a different currency and different amounts. The page also says additional local taxes may apply.

When we looked, a site-wide sale banner and a countdown timer were running, and each plan carried a discount label. Discounts and timers change often, so the figure to keep in mind is the regular listed price: €13.99 a month.

• 12 months: €3.99 a month, labeled 70% off the regular €13.99. Billed for the whole period and renews automatically.
• 3 months: €8.99 a month, labeled 35% off the regular €13.99. Billed for the whole period and renews automatically.
• 1 month: €9.99 for the first month, then €13.99 a month. The page shows the price going up after the first month.
• What every plan includes, per the page: unlimited text messages, 100 tokens per month, 18+ image and video generation, the Live Action experience and creating your own characters.
• Extra tokens: paid users can buy more tokens if they run out, but the token shop sends you to the sign in page, so we have not seen those prices.
• Premium Plus: Candy's help center describes a higher tier with 330 tokens a month and extra features. Its price was not shown to us.

Free trial, renewals and refunds: the fine print

Candy's AI boyfriend page and homepage mention a 7-day trial, but the subscription page we saw did not list a trial option or say what a trial costs. Treat the trial as something to check inside your account, not as a guaranteed free week.

Every plan renews automatically at the end of its period, and Candy's terms say subscriptions are billed monthly, quarterly or yearly. The terms also say price increases are announced before a renewal, and the subscription page says the charge appears on your bank statement as "EverAI", the company that runs Candy. On a yearly plan, the help center says you receive 100 tokens each month but are charged only once a year.

Refunds are limited. Outside the EU and UK, the terms give you 24 hours after payment to ask, only for card payments, and a refund is refused if more than 20 tokens were used. EU and UK residents have a 14-day withdrawal right on the first purchase only, not on renewals.

One point is unclear: Candy's terms say remaining tokens expire when a cancelled subscription ends, while a newer help center article says your token balance stays on the account and can be used again if you resubscribe. If unused tokens matter to you, spend them before your plan ends.

Is Candy AI legit, and is it worth paying for?

Candy.ai is a real service run by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta, with published terms, refund rules and a help center. We cover who runs it and what it does with your chats in our Is Candy AI safe? guide, so we will not repeat it here.

Whether it is worth it depends on what you want. We have not tested chat quality, so we cannot judge the conversations for you. What we can say is how the pricing works in practice:

• Five free messages are enough to see the interface, not to judge a character. Expect to decide on paying fairly quickly.
• Text chat is unlimited on a paid plan; pictures, videos, voice and custom characters draw on 100 tokens a month, so heavy image users may need to buy more.
• The lowest monthly price comes with the longest commitment (a 12-month plan billed for the period). The monthly plan costs the most per month but is the easiest to stop.
• Set a reminder before your renewal date, especially after a discounted first month.

What this means if you are a gay man

Candy is a general AI companion platform. Most of it is built around AI girlfriends, with separate sections for anime characters and guys. Its AI boyfriend page lists 12 official male characters and lets you create a custom boyfriend by choosing his look and personality, but it never mentions gay users. Those 12 men are a small corner of a much larger catalogue.

That does not make Candy a bad choice. If one of those 12 men appeals to you, or you want to design your own, a paid plan gives you unlimited text chat with him. A free alternative made for gay men: ChatRoger

If you would rather use an app built around gay men, ChatRoger is the alternative we point to. It has official characters plus roughly 30,000 community characters, a free account to start, and it publishes its prices before sign-up. Instead of a message cap with unlimited chat on paid plans, it uses credits for media, and its FAQ says credits do not expire and stay on your account after you cancel Premium.
