What is ChatRoger AI?

ChatRoger AI is a companion chat platform made for gay men. Instead of adding a men section to an app designed for everyone, it is built around gay characters, gay types and gay roleplay from the start. You chat by text with an AI character, and you can ask for extras such as voice notes, photos and videos, which are paid in credits.

The catalogue has two layers. Official characters are created by ChatRoger itself, and community characters are made by users. The community directory listed about 30,068 characters on Oct 2, 2026, so you are unlikely to run out of options. On our own site we profile 89 ChatRoger characters, sorted by type: daddies, jocks, twinks, otters and bears.

ChatRoger shows a message count on each character, which gives a rough idea of what users actually chat with. On Sept 27, 2026, the official characters at the top were all clearly written personas with an age, a job and a city, which is typical of how the Roger AI app boyfriend profiles are built.

ChatRoger price: plans and credits

Is ChatRoger free? You can open a free account and start chatting at no cost. What you pay for is Premium and credits. Prices are public on ChatRoger's upgrade page, readable without logging in, which is less common than it should be in this category. Here are the figures we saw on Sept 27, 2026, in US dollars, before any taxes shown at checkout (which we did not reach).

What credits buy

Text chat is the core of ChatRoger, and media is where credits go. These are the costs published on the upgrade page. Larger credit packs also exist, with the same pattern of Premium members paying about half the free plan price (for example, 4,500 credits cost $79.98 on the free plan and $39.99 with Premium).

Adult 18+ mode and age verification

ChatRoger has an adult section, which it calls an uncensored feed, on a separate adult page. It is meant for adults only. Depending on where you are, opening it may trigger an age check: when we looked from France, ChatRoger asked for age verification through Yoti, a third-party age verification service. We do not know exactly which regions see this step, so be ready for it rather than surprised by it.

What we like and what to watch

Here is our balanced take, limited to what we could check ourselves.

• We like: the gay-first focus. Characters, types and the whole catalogue are aimed at gay men rather than tacked on.
• We like: public prices. Plans, credit packs and per-action costs are on an official page you can read before signing up.
• We like: fair credit rules. Per ChatRoger's FAQ, credits are deducted only after a successful generation, they do not expire, and you keep them after cancelling Premium.
• Watch: media costs add up. At 30 credits a photo, the 1,000 monthly Premium credits cover about 33 photos, and a video costs as much as about three photos.
• Watch: buying credits on the free plan is expensive. An extra 1,000 credits cost $19.98 without Premium, more than a month of Premium at $14.99, which already includes 1,000 credits.
• Watch: community characters vary. With about 30,000 user-made characters, quality and writing will not be even. Official characters are a safer place to start.
• Watch: the adult mode may ask for ID-based age verification in some regions.

What we could not test

We want to be clear about the limits of this ChatRoger review. We did not buy credits or run long conversations, so we cannot judge the quality of the chat, how well characters remember you, or the quality of generated photos and videos. We also did not measure how many free messages a free account allows. ChatRoger advertises live audio calls for Premium, but we did not see what a call costs in credits and did not try one.

If you try ChatRoger, the cheapest way to judge it yourself is to start on the free account with text chat and an official character, then decide whether Premium is worth it.

Verdict: who ChatRoger suits

ChatRoger suits gay men who want a dedicated AI boyfriend app rather than a general companion platform where male characters are an afterthought. Its strengths, from what we could verify, are its focus, a large catalogue of official and community characters, and unusually transparent pricing with credits that do not expire. If you mainly want text chat, the free account is the natural starting point. If you want regular photos, voice notes or videos, Premium makes more sense than buying credits on the free plan.

It suits you less if you want unlimited media for a flat fee, since every photo and video costs credits, or if you are not comfortable with a possible age verification step for adult content.
